About Deep Listening

Deep Listening, as developed by Pauline Oliveros, explores the difference between the involuntary nature of hearing and the conscious nature of listening. The practice includes bodywork, sonic meditations, and interactive performance, as well as listening to the sounds of daily life, nature, one’s own thoughts, imagination, and dreams. It cultivates a heightened awareness of the sonic environment, both external and internal, and promotes experimentation, improvisation, collaboration, playfulness, and other creative skills vital to personal and community growth.

Workshop: The Attuned Listening Experience Workshop with Jane Rigler

Step into a new world where listening transforms into creation, and every person—regardless of ability or instrument—becomes part of a living, breathing musical community.

Inspired by scores and concepts created by the composer/performer/educator, Pauline Oliveros, this 90-minute workshop opens up infinite possibilities that can alter perspectives around performance and interpretation of new music.

Discover:

  • Your body as an instrument, your attention as artistry

  • Playful movement that unlocks sound

  • Accessible musical scores that welcome everyone

  • The joy of co-creating compositions in real-time

  • How dreams, memories, and imagination become creative musical experiences

What happens: Together we form a listening collective—not performing for an audience, but becoming the music itself. Through Oliveros’ pioneering methods, and Jane Rigler’s gentle facilitation, participants explore how conscious listening builds creative communities where barriers dissolve and wonder and curiosity emerge.

Who belongs here: Every body. Every ability. Every instrument (or none at all). Every discipline. Every dreamer.

The magic: Watch as strangers become collaborators, silence becomes symphony, and individual voices merge into something none of us could create alone. The definition around what is or isn’t music dissolves and instead it becomes about the act of co-creation, where deeply listening becomes multi-sensorial experience.

Leave with: New ways of hearing your world, tools for creative collaboration, and the profound experience of being truly listened to while creating something transformative with others.

The Attuned Listening Experience: Where conscious attention meets creative community

Soundwalk: The Silent Soundwalk Experience with Jane Rigler

Join Jane Rigler for a transformative, communal, soundwalking journey where diverse people gather to unlock the hidden soundscapes around and within us.

What happens: We walk slowly, listen deeply, and discover together. No destination—just presence. As we tune into our environment and each other, we notice which sounds we absorb and which we ignore, revealing patterns about ourselves and our community.

The magic: When groups listen quietly together, the world opens up. Animals emerge. Relationships form. Trust builds. These discoveries ripple outward and expand into our daily lives.

The experience: Short, slow walks punctuated by playful expression—writing, drawing, sounding together as a listening ensemble. We disrupt ordinary walking by asking not “where to?” but “how to?”—expanding our listening capacity beyond what we imagined possible.

The result: Communities connected through contemplative practice, multisensory awareness, and the revolutionary act of truly hearing our world.

Journey over destination. Listening over arriving. Community over isolation.
